Even though the Siegen-Wittgenstein region cannot boast the highest mountains, it is still wonderfully suitable for hiking. Gentle hills are covered by wonderfully green forests, the rivers Eder, Lahn and Sieg have their source here and numerous low mountain ranges have their origin in the source region. There is hardly a more suitable place than Germany's most densely wooded region to immerse oneself in nature and leave everyday life behind on long or short hikes.

Hiking through the forest and along the water

In the municipality of Netphen, young and old explorers alike can hike along the forest adventure trail to the source of the Sieg. Not only will you visit the source of the Sieg at an altitude of just over 600 metres, but you will also learn a lot about the forest that covers a large part of the region. Children are not the only ones who will enjoy the short circular trail.

The hike on the Via Adrina is also wonderful. The tour, which is best divided into two days, requires physical fitness, but quickly makes up for the effort with its magnificent panoramic views. The premium hiking trail leads along the Eder River, through varied forests and over sunny hills.

Discover history and culture while hiking

Siegen-Wittgenstein not only impresses with its beautiful landscape. The region also has a lot of interesting cultural history to offer. You can learn a lot about this on your tours. For example, hike the historic Achenbach circular route. The quality hiking trail leads you with information boards not only through nature, but also through regional history. You should therefore allow enough time to visit the sights along the way at your leisure.

The Siegen-Wittgenstein district was already an important mining region in the times of the Celts. The Salchendorf Miners' Trail teaches you about the special features of ironstone mining and shows you mines that have since been closed down. The Wodanstolln visitor mine at the beginning of the hike gives you additional insights into the history of mining with guided tours.

ROTHAARSTEIG TRAIL “Trödelsteinpfad” (“Trödelstein path”) by Peter
