On the trail of the forest spirits

Starting point

Would you like to breath in deeply and spend the day surrounded by greenery? According to ancient myths, Celtic-Germanic fabled creatures and little goblins are at home in the forests of Siegerland and Wittgenstein and fairies and nymphs live in streams and springs. Would you like to see them with your own eyes? The stroll along the “Kleiner Rothaar” (Little Rothaar) fairytale hiking trail in search of the red-haired goblin and his friend Otti, the forest lizard. The loop trail also takes you to the enchanted source of the Ilse river.

You don’t have enough of fabled creatures yet? Then search for the footprints of these tiny creatures on the Dildappenweg.

It is worth making a detour to the nearby Wasserburg Hainchen moated castle.

End point

The day ends in Siegen, the greenest city in Germany. After a long day of walking, you can take a ride on the  Hübbelbummler old-timer bus in the picturesque, historical old town. Not much further now to the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Siegerlandmuseum in the Upper Palace. And the many shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants in the town centre are just around the corner.
