Meet the king of the forest. Bison have been re-established in the Rothaargebirge mountain range in the only successful project of its kind anywhere in Western Europe. A herd of European bison has been grazing here in the cultivated forest since 2013. A natural trail guides you through the bison territory of the Rothaarsteig where you can take a peep at the wildlife conservation project. Other unusual animals you may see are the rare red Wittgenstein cattle in the Mühlbachtal valley, the deer at the Forsthaus Hohenroth forester's lodge, kingfishers and black storks. Experience close encounters with the wildlife of Siegen-Wittgenstein.
