"Powerful landscape - Powerful animals" is the name of loop tour, which can be reached as addition via the Ederradweg. On this route you can closely experience the bison - the largest land mammals in Europe -because a detour to the natural enclosure "Wisent-Wildnis am Rothaarsteig" is definitely worthwhile. In addition, beautiful landscapes, enchanting forests and wide meadows offer a special experience. Get to know the different facets of the small towns and villages and cycle along the 40-kilometre route through this natural paradise.

Turn-by-turn directions

Our tour starts at the railway station Aue-Wingeshausen, which is located in the center of the village Aue. From here you follow the Ederradweg in direction Raumland. There we turn off to Stöppel and have a great overview of Bad Berleburg. From here we go on to the old town and the castle Berleburg. The path then continues through the upper town to the Trufterhain. High above the town you can already see the "Golden Egg" - a detour to the artwork of the Forest Sculpture Trail is worthwhile!

Our tour now allows some relaxation, because it goes a few meters downhill into the Trufte. But there the next ascent is already waiting - we cycle over the Winterscheid and arrive at the Landgasthof Grünewald. We follow the road for a short while and then turn into the Preisdorf valley. From there we cycle uphill again into the Fehlbach valley. Beautiful oak trees line the path up to the Schinn: Once at the top, we are rewarded with a magnificent view. The tour now goes downhill to Wingeshausen.

In Wingeshausen a longer ascent follows, during which beautiful views open here and there. After a few kilometers we reach the "Wisent-Wilderness at the Rothaarsteig". A herd of bison lives here in a natural enclosure - a fascinating species protection project.

From the bison wilderness, the tour takes you back to Wingeshausen on a rapid descent - the tour leads to the Rohrbach treading basin, through the Casimir Valley and past the climbing rock on the Kapplerstein. Soon we reach our start and finish point at the train station in Aue.

Along the route, there are several gastronomic establishments that invite you to take a break, relax and refresh yourself. A variable arrangement of the tour is possible due to the routing at the train stations.
