From the Haincher Höhe hill and the Rothaarsteig hiking trail, the route takes you towards Kaffeebuche, Herrenberg and Jagdberg (675 m above sea level). Below the Jagdberg hill, the route continues towards Sohl, and from there towards Hessen until you reach the Eichholzkopf hilltop, then back again.

This tour can be varied. It can be followed from the Eichholzkopf or Sohl. The route length can also be adapted to your own level of skill. For example, you can cover the section from Haincher Höhe to Sohl only, or from Sohl to the Eichholzkopf. This wonderful trail is also accessible from: Heiligenborn cemetery car park, Eisenstrasse car park, Haincher Höhe car park, Offdillner station car park.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the Haincher Höhe hikers’ car park, take the left-hand path at the fork. This takes you gradually uphill over gentle slopes. After around 1.5 km, you reach the Rothaarsteig hiking trail. You pass the Kaffeebuche picnic area. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful view out into the Johannland region. After 800 m, the “Rittershäuser Wetterstein” is reached. After 1.2 km, turn right. At the end of the path, keep to the left and after 100 m, take a sharp right turn towards Sohl, just before the ascent to the Jagdberg hill. The next 1.8 km to the ski hut in Sohl take you downhill.

After 800 m, keep to the right when the paths fork. Keep to the path before reaching the ski hut on the Eichholzkopf after 2.5 km. Turn around and follow the same route back. After 5.7 km, you reach a steep, short ascent up to the Jagdberg. Once you reach the top, take the right-hand path towards Heiligenborn at the path crossing. Turn left when you reach Heiligenborn cemetery. After 1.2 km, take the left-hand path again.

After 800 m, you again reach the path crossing on he Jagdberg. From there, follow the Rothaarsteig trail towards Hainchen-Kaffeebuche. Over the next 1.5 km, there is a rapid descent. Once you reach Rittershäuser Wetterstein, keep to the right. You will reach the Kaffeebuche after 1 km. From here, take the same route back to the starting point.
