This themed route in the middle of what was formerly a busy mining area, takes you to numerous old mining tunnels and pits on a wide variety of “miners’ paths”.

Vorbei am Wielandshof geht es bei freier Sicht bis zum Waldrand. Bereits nach 500 m wartet mit der Grube Ratzenscheid ein erster Höhepunkt auf uns. Wir laufen am Grubengelände vorbei und passieren auf unserer Wanderung zum Steinbruch Kettner den Schwarzen Schornstein und die Grube Jacobssegen. Wunderbarer Mischwald begleitet uns, vorbei an alten, oft verborgenen Stolleneingängen, wie dem Gestellsteinstollen. Nach knapp 6 km erreichen wir die Grube Marie. Wenige Meter dahinter queren wir die B54 und biegen rechts ab, um auf Waldwegen entlang der Grenze zum Rothaarsteig zu laufen, wo sich ein wunderbarer Ausblick über die Höhen des Siegerlandes eröffnet. Nach knapp 300 m verlassen wir diesen wieder und steigen abwärts zum Briedoffelsloch, einem alten Stolleneingang. Auf weichen Waldpfaden entlang des Weißbaches gehen wir vorbei an der Weißquelle hinauf zur L904, die problemlos gequert werden kann. Nach insgesamt 11,8 km passieren wir den Brunnen Goldschmiedsborn. Nun geht es am Wanderparkplatz neben dem weitläufigen Naturschutzgebiet der Grube Neue Hoffnung aus dem Wald heraus. An einer Wiese entlang Richtung Heckebachtal erreichen wir den versteckt liegenden Eingang der Grube Fortuna. Wir verlassen das Tal und treffen wieder auf unseren Startpunkt.

Turn-by-turn directions

Passing the Wielandshof farm, you continue to the edge of the forest with open views. The first highlight, the Grube Ratzenscheid pit, already awaits you after 750 m. The route continues across the pit site to the forest, and uphill to the sports field, from where the path takes you to the Kettner quarry, which is still in use. You will pass through wonderful mixed forest, past old, often hidden mine entrances. After 6.8 km in all, you reach the Grube Marie pit in a clearing. A few meters behind it, turn left and continue uphill on an old forest path to the next wide track, which runs to the right to the B 54 road. Then, you join the Rothaarsteig trail, which offers a wonderful view onto the hills of the Siegerland region. After around 300 m, you leave the Rothaarsteig and go downhill towards the Briedoffelsloch, an old mine entrance. Following soft forest paths along the Weißbach stream, you pass the Weißquelle spring up to the L 904 road, which is easy to cross. After 11.8 km in total, you pass the Goldschmiedsborn drinking fountain. Now, you leave the forest at the hikers’ car park next to the large nature reserve, the Grube Neue Hoffnung. Continuing alongside a meadow towards Heckebachtal valley, you reach the hidden entrance to the Fortuna pit. You then leave the valley and reach the starting point.

Wilnsdorf can be reached via the B54. There are two starting points for the hiking trail: at the B 54/L904 junction in the forest and on the outskirts of Wilnsdorf at the car park (there is also a bus stop here)

Ich bin den Weg gestern gewandert und hatte dabei viel Freude. Wenn man im Winter wandert, dann muss man damit rechnen, das die Wege etwas beschwerlicher zu gehen sind, weil Spuren der großen Fahrzeuge, matschige und tiefe Rillen verursacht haben. Das macht den Wanderweg irgendwie sportlicher 😄 Die vielen Highlights unterwegs sind auch im Januar, mit viel Schnee, gut zu finden. Ich hatte keine Orientierungsschwierigkeiten, denn die Beschilderung ist top. Ich komme im Sommer nochmal, um den Weg zu wandern.

Eigentlich eine recht schöne Tour, verbindet sie doch viele alte Stollen und Bergwerke und liefert teilweise auch historische Informationen auf Tafeln dazu. Leider weckt der Name Erwartungen, denen die Tour definitiv nicht gerecht wird: sie enthält keinen einzigen Pfad. Warum nennt man so etwas nicht eher Historische Bergwerkstour o.ä.

Alles in allem eine schöne Tour die man macht, vor allem spannend für Kinder mit den verschiedenen Stollen die man auf der Strecke hat. Der Weg lässt sich super laufen, vorbei an der ein oder anderen Quelle, wir fanden es sehr schön
