Nature Park Information Center Alte Vogtei Burbach

Information point
The Alte Vogtei Burbach is the southernmost gateway to the largest nature park in NRW - the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. Here you will find all the information about the nature park, the treasure chests and jewels and lots of tips and suggestions.

The building was almost demolished in 1970 - today the Alte Vogtei Burbach is the central meeting place for citizens and guests of the community. The extensively renovated building combines historical flair with the demands of modern village life.

LINK BETWEEN HISTORY AND THE FUTURE

On an axis with the Protestant church, the ALTE VOGTEI is one of the two poles of Burbach's historic village center. There is no documentary evidence of exactly when the Amtshaus was built. A building history study dates the half-timbered building to 1698, while it is known that the adjacent tithe barn fell victim to the Great Fire on July 4, 1758, along with 160 other buildings. The ALTE VOGTEI survived the fire, presumably due to its slate roof.

The bailiff ruled here for a long time and dispensed justice. The official residence was used as a residence from 1848. In 1979, the Alte Vogtei Burbach local history association was founded with the aim of preserving the historic building (a listed building since 1984). After extensive renovation in 1982, it made a name for itself in the region as a museum and cultural site, and was also open for the work of many clubs and for weddings.

As part of the perspective urban planning and the Burbach LebensWERTE Dörfer initiative, the municipality of Burbach as the owner and the Heimatfreunde decided in 2015 to develop the building into a meeting, visitor and experience center. Since 2022, the ALTE VOGTEI, which has been extensively renovated and converted in line with its listed status, has been the central multifunctional meeting place for citizens and guests of the municipality in conjunction with the Zehntscheune, which has also been renovated. It combines historical flair with the modern demands of future village life.
