This hiking tip on the Rothaarsteig starts at the station in Dillenburg. Take the train (HLB RB40) to Herborn and from there the bus 510 in 40 minutes to the town hall in Breitscheid. From there you hike back to Dillenburg via the Rothaarsteig

Our hike begins in Breitscheid at the corner of Westerwaldstraße / Kreuzweg. Follow the black and white Rothaarsteig logo of the Breitscheid cave route westward. Past the pottery museum and the church, the path leads into the Aubachtal onto the Rothaarsteig. From there, it continues to the right down the Aubachtal via the Rothaarsteig. Shortly before Langenaubach, a short detour to the right into an old quarry is worthwhile, where the basalt columns of an ancient volcanic vent can be beautifully seen. From the Aubachtal, the path then leads up to the Wildweiberhäuschen rest station, where you can be served on Sundays from April to October. Via Alte Rheinstraße and Stangenwaage, the Rothaarsteig leads up to the Kornberg with its magnificent views in all directions. Past Donsbach, it goes over the Meerborn heath back into the town center of Dillenburg to the station. This hike is 20.3 kilometers long and has about 310 meters of elevation gain.
