- Start: Wildweiberhäuschen hiking parking lot near Haiger-Langenaubach
- Destination: Wildweiberhäuschen hiking parking lot near Haiger-Langenaubach
The hike begins at the Wildweiberhäuschen hiking parking lot. The actual Wildweiberhäuschen is a legendary, striking limestone rock to which you can make a detour at the end of the hike. From the parking lot, the trail runs along an avenue adorned with the respective trees of the year towards Breitscheid. From the outskirts, it goes across open fields to the entrance of the dripstone cave Herbstlabyrinth. It is worth taking part in one of the guided tours into the cave. However, prior registration is required: www.schauhoehle-breitscheid.de
Later, you descend into the idyllic Gasseschlucht towards Erdbach. This is followed by the ascent to the large and small stone chamber as well as the Fox Hole. As a reward, the view into a large natural amphitheater awaits. The route then continues to Breitscheid where you can refresh yourself. The path continues through the Aubach valley, which is lined with basalt blocks transported here during the last ice age. After the railway bridge, you can make a detour to the Wildweiberhäuschen or continue the round on the marked route.
From the Aubach valley, the trail leads up to the rest stop “Zu den wilden Weibern” at the Langenaubach block hut (open Sundays and holidays from April to October from 11 am to 5 pm). Shortly after, you return to the starting point of the hike.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Crown your hike with a journey to the underworld and descend into the dripstone cave Herbstlabyrinth, discovered only a few years ago. Tickets and further information can be found at www.schauhoehle-breitscheid.de. The cave is open on weekends from April to November. In the special atmosphere of the cave, in addition to guided tours at specific times, there are also events ranging from concerts to photo workshops offered. www.schauhoehle-breitscheid.de/veranstaltungen. Please register early for tours and events. Spontaneous participation is rarely possible due to high demand.
A hidden gem is also the interactive Pottery Museum in Breitscheid. Especially interesting here are the immersive guided tours and pottery courses. The museum is open from May to September on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. You can find information there.
If you are out on the weekend, you should pay a visit to the rest stop "Zu den wilden Weibern", which is always open on Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm from April to October!

Information about the rescue panels on the Rothaarsteig
Hiking trails usually run away from towns and settlements, and every hiker has thought about what would happen in an emergency. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, it must be fast! Therefore, the Rothaarsteig is continuously equipped with so-called rescue signs. On the green-white plaques attached to the posts of the signposts, there is a number you must provide when making an emergency call. This way, the rescue teams know exactly where you are, and valuable time can be saved.
Note on increased forest fire risk
Please consider that especially in dry conditions, there is an increased forest fire risk! Please observe the following instructions:
- Observe the legal smoking ban in the forest – it applies in spring, summer, and autumn, more precisely: from March 1 to October 31.
- Observe the ban on open fires in the forest and within 100 meters of the forest.
- Take glass out of the forest – the burning glass effect can cause forest fires.
If it is (too) late:
- Extinguish small initial fires if it is safe to do so. Check the area thoroughly if necessary.
- Report fires by calling "112".
- Leave the danger area by the shortest route.
The forest thanks you!
