The Freudenberg half-timbered path invites you on a historic journey that begins in the idyllic half-timbered town. Gorgeous nature passages lead to an old smelting site. Along with great views, a 400 m long tunnel passage is also one of the highlights of the route.

In the midst of the extensive forests of Siegerland, the picturesque town of Freudenberg awaits to be discovered! The narrow alleys of the old town with the venerable cobblestone pavement, but above all the pretty black-and-white half-timbered houses, take the visitor on a journey back to the Middle Ages.

The half-timbered path complements this cultural-historical gem with an excursion to babbling waters and great distant views. A special highlight of the route is the tunnel passage at Hohenhain.

Directions

Starting at the parking lot P4 Burgstraße/Hinterm Schloß, the path goes with a slight ascent up into the historic old town of Freudenberg, the “Alten Flecken.” Further along the way, visitors are offered a picturesque view from the spa park of the black-and-white postcard idyll. The route continues through the Gambach valley, past a replica of a historic smelting furnace from the Middle Ages. The path then leads through the 400 m long disused railway tunnel towards Hohenhain. This tunnel is illuminated all year round. From there, it continues uphill. The path now turns right and leads over open meadows towards Hammerhöhe. Along the national border, it continues towards Mausbach. At the border path, a snack island invites you to take a break where you can enjoy the panoramic view. The path continues downhill towards Alte Heide. After a short steep ascent, the path turns right towards Trulichsberg. Once there, Freudenberg is soon in sight, and after another ascent, the starting point of the hike is reached.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Between mid-May and mid-September, the warm water outdoor pool in the Gambach valley is an attraction.
If you prefer to exert yourself more, then the climbing forest near the route at Trulichsberg is the right place.
