Reflect on the hardships and dangers that shaped the lives of miners, charcoal burners, cart drivers, and farmers of past centuries. Forge the iron while it is hot and enjoy the Kulturweg Eisen.
Discover a highly scenic route between the villages of Bad Berleburg-Aue and Erndtebrück-Birkefehl with numerous cultural-historical highlights. If you start in Aue, the path leads you about 8 km past the Wallburg Aue to the village of Birkefehl with its archaeologically significant Iron Age burial field (map on the right, red route). If you choose the return option (orange route), you will find five more stations that are also geologically remarkable and experience a very varied hike of another 10 km. Both routes offer numerous insights into the natural and cultural landscape of the region. The parking lot in Birkefehl offers you another option to start the Kulturweg Eisen from the south.

The arrival and start of the hiking trail is ideally possible via two points:
Aue-Wingeshausen on the main road, L 55351° 02′ 57″ North8° 17′ 56″ East
Parking lot in Birkefehl, Birkefehler Street, K 4951° 00′ 42″ North8° 18′ 16″ East

Parking options are available directly on the hiking trail in the center of Aue-Wingeshausen (near the starting point) or halfway along the route (between stations 9 and 10) on Birkefehler Street in Birkefehl. See directions
To reach the Kulturweg Eisen by public transport, we recommend arriving and departing via the Aue-Wingeshausen station to station 1 or to Erndtebrück-Birkefehl to station 9.Â
You can reach Aue-Wingeshausen station with the Rothaarbahn RB 93. Schameder station: Obere Lahntalbahn (Regionalbahn 94). You can reach Birkefehl with bus line R 27.
