The Giebelwald lies between Siegen-Oberschelden in the east, Oberfischbach and Niederfischbach in the north, and the Sieg valley with Freusburg and Niederschelderhütte in the south. The extensive forest area is suitable for long-distance runs on wide and well-maintained forest paths.

The route is characterized by the easy start over the ridge of the Lurzenbach with its wide views. Afterwards, the runner enters an uninhabited forest area that extends for many kilometers to the Sieg valley, but also offers some short viewpoints here and there. The forests are quite structured and partly composed of tall deciduous trees.

By the way, the starting point is only about one kilometer away from the Siegerland West rest area on the A 45 heading south (between the junctions Freudenberg and Siegen). The dedicated runner driving south on the highway can also enter the route from there via a section of forest path and meadow paths. Orientation is easily possible using Google Maps.

The route was developed by the regional running portal 'Laufen 57', Frank Steinseifer

Directions

The presented running route (13.3 km) runs through the areas of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate and starts at the parking lot on the hill at Oberschelder Straße. From here, you run along the paved farm road past agricultural businesses to the old festival site of the Lurzenbach (1.7 km). Those who start the running loop at the Lurzenbach, which is also suitable for parking, shorten the described route by 3.4 kilometers (all further distances are shortened by 1.7 km). However, they also miss the gently sloping ridge path with its beautiful views.

At the Lurzenbach, run straight across the square along the wide path heading west (hiking trail N13). Follow this wide forest path for a long time slightly uphill, past the fork (km 3.2), continue straight uphill and on the wide main path up to the 4.5 km mark. After a 200-meter downhill section, turn sharply left into a hairpin turn (km 4.8) uphill. After kilometer 5.4, follow another sharp left hairpin uphill (N13/N15) until kilometer 5.8. Now the highest point is reached (Giebelberg, 520 m above sea level). Continue running (N15) slightly downhill along the ridge, at the hut (km 6.9) turn left and continue downhill on the main path; at kilometer 7.6 there is a hairpin turn to the left, at kilometer 8 you pass a hunting stand (right) and continue straight on the ridge path, at kilometer 9.2 turn sharply left, now run very steeply downhill to kilometer 9.5 and then turn left again onto the main path. At kilometer 10, the runner finishes the forest round at the intersection and turns right onto the return path. The starting point is reached on the same route as the outbound run.
