The Tiergarten forest area in Siegen-Weidenau is over 100 hectares in size. Its origins date back to the 17th century, when Prince Johann Moritz of Nassau-Siegen (1604 – 1679) established a game park on the Wellersberg. Since 2013, the university town of Siegen has been transforming the area into an “Adventure Forest Historic Tiergarten,” where environmental education goals are also implemented and interactive use is emphasized.

Directions
The start and finish of the route is the information board at the parking lot by the barbecue hut (end of Güterweg). First, you cross a small footpath directly opposite the hiking sign and then turn right onto the wide coach road. Along this main path, after 700 meters you pass the animal enclosure, after 850 meters you follow the path steeply uphill to the left, pass the Hirschsprung at the top (kilometer 1), and then run downhill again towards the tank road.
At kilometer 1.25, turn sharply left, follow hiking trail A2 over the footpath, and then run past the ant sculptures. After a downhill section with ground waves, follow the path to the right, which shortly afterwards passes a small rest area (km 1.8), cross it, and run slightly to the right. Then you pass through a beech forest (km 1.9).
After kilometer 2.3, turn left at the large ant, run up the "Panzerwiese," follow the path straight ahead and then downhill to the wide coach road near the pumping house. Here, turn right and run along the main path to the end, where you turn left one last time and return to the starting point.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
From the hiking parking lot, it is only 400 meters to the left to the old tank road, which leads to the former Trupbacher Heide military training area. Those who turn left again here will enjoy beautiful views of the Giersberg and Siegberg after just under 900 meters.
