Weitblick = nature reserve with a wide view

With beautiful views past orchids and shrikes

The "Weitblick" path primarily stands for excellent views and magnificent distant panoramas. From the perspective of "management with foresight," the path also offers examples of how important habitats can be provided for animals and plants through extensive maintenance of areas.

Directions

Our route on the 5.7-kilometer-long Richstein circular hiking trail "Weitblick" begins at the parking lot "Am Didoll." Our hike leads us left from the parking lot towards the inn "Didoll." At the intersection with the country road 903, we choose the farm road branching off to the right. We follow this for about one kilometer and then turn left at the intersection. Up to this point, the route shares the path with the hiking trail "Richsteig," which leaves us at this intersection.

Along our route, we have a splendid view over Richstein in the direction of Arfeld and Dotzlar. At the intersection, we now follow the hiking trail through the nature reserve to the right. Unusual plants and animals, including rare orchids and birds not found everywhere, such as the shrike, can be observed here with some patience. We follow the path to another intersection at the L903. We cross this and immediately turn left onto the paved path towards the hiking shelter. We leave the shelter on the right and turn left at the next intersection into a forest path. This path leads us uphill through a forest towards "Stein." After about 700 meters, we reach a junction, where we follow the farm road turning right.

We reach an intersection where a total of four farm roads meet. Here we take the left path and hike on this tour up to the highest point of our hike: the "Stein" at approximately 640 meters. Once at the top, we enjoy the unique view in all directions.

We follow the path turning left to the hiking parking lot "Am Didoll" and recognize the Sackpfeife to the right on the horizon. Here we cross the L903 again and return partly along the Hessian border to the parking lot.

Additional information

Richstein: The first documented mention of the village dates back to 1384. A look at the village shows its particularly distinctive character: Dominating is the steeply rising castle hill to the west, 490 meters high, with remains of the ruins, today a festival site and hiking destination with a very beautiful view of the forested surroundings. The valleys of the Richstein stream and the adjoining Großwiesen and Paders streams are also scenic. The rural villagescape is mainly shaped by agricultural part-time farms. Richstein offers its guests cozy and familiar comfort. The village with 300 inhabitants allows wonderful nature experiences with well-marked hiking paths.
