The Ginsberger Heide has always been a popular destination for families. The circular route, child-friendly 4 km, leads past all the sights. From the start, it is only a few meters to the Gillerberg Tower, which rises unmistakably 15 m high and guarantees a great view. After 1.5 km, big and small hikers reach downhill Hilchenbach's landmark, the Ginsburg. The legend of the robber knight Hans Hübner will especially enthuse the youngest, and the view over the entire Siegerland rewards the whole family. After refreshing yourself in the Ginsburgstube, you continue on rustic forest paths to the next stage destination: the natural playground Ginsberger Heide. Here, children can explore and get to know nature in a playful way. There is also space for a picnic in the open nature, or you can take a break at the Hotel+Restaurant Ginsberger Heide before on the last part of the hike—past the ski lift—going uphill again to the starting place.

Directions
From the hiking car park, follow the A1 trail marker. After about 300 m, you will reach the Gillerberg Tower of the SGV Hilchenbach department. The ascent is an experience for little explorers, and from the platform of the 15 m high tower, you have a splendid view over the Ginsberger Heide. From here, it goes approximately 1.5 km downhill along the Rothaarsteig to the Ginsburg. Halfway, you pass the freely accessible grill area Köhlerhütte, where public grilling is possible.
Always following the A1, you finally reach the Ginsburg, Hilchenbach's landmark and German-Dutch memorial site. In 1568, Wilhelm of Orange started the Dutch Liberation War here. From the restored tower of the ruin, you have a unique view over Siegerland on clear weather, and the legend of the robber knight Hans Hübner is sure to delight your children. After refreshments in the Ginsburgstube, it goes uphill on rustic forest paths to our next stage destination: the natural playground Ginsberger Heide. Here the children can really let off steam or research exciting questions about the forest in the nearby nature experience station. The playground also offers an ideal opportunity for a picnic in the open nature (open fires and grilling are not allowed) or you can take a break at the Restaurant Ginsberger Heide.
On the last part of the route, you are rewarded with a walk through the Ginsberger Heide nature reserve. Parallel to the ski lift, you walk up the slope (an oversized “wishing chair” is planned here) and continue to your starting point, the Giller hiking car park. From here, you can enjoy the great view once more before heading home with tired but happy children.
