Directions

Netphen-Deuz-Salchendorf-Helgersdorf-Werthenbach-Hainchen-Brauersdorf

Just start cycling and follow the numbers as indicated: 40 – 39 – 27 – 26 – 24 – 25 – 18 – 17 (these can be found in the red-white signage for cycle paths; every main signpost at a junction has a number)

We start our route at Parking Lot 2 of the Netphen Leisure Park (the first parking lot on the right when coming from Netphen on Brauersdorfer Straße). From here, we follow the path between the mini-golf course and the building of the former ice rink, then keep right along the tennis courts until we reach a junction after 200 m. There we turn right onto the cycle path towards Netphen. After crossing a small bridge over the Obernau, we cross the cobblestone old marketplace with the bronze Tanner statue on the left.

Passing the Hotel & Restaurant Stella, we reach Lahnstraße. We follow this to the right until the junction with the main street (in front of us stands the impressive Catholic church), where we turn left into Bahnhofstraße. On the bridge, we catch our first glimpse of the Sieg river. At the end, we cross the bypass road (L729) at the existing traffic lights and turn left into the street Am Bernstein.

At the turning area, we leave the small industrial area behind and follow the paved cycle path. After 550 m we turn right and then immediately left again, following the cycle path towards Deuz – always along the Sieg and through the Auenwald nature reserve until we finally reach the sports field in Deuz after 2.3 km. We go straight onto Tannenstraße and turn right at the end onto Waldstraße. This leads us over a gentle ascent to the junction with Feuersbacher Straße and to Junction 40.

Official: At this junction, we keep left and use the cycle path up to the next traffic light, which runs on the left along the heavily trafficked L729. At the traffic light we stay on the left side and turn left into Albert-Irle-Straße. On the left side, we now see the old train station in Deuz and a replica of the world’s first motorized bus (Mercedes Benz), which started scheduled service between Deuz and Siegen-Weidenau in 1895.

Alternative: Shortly before the junction with Feuersbacher Straße, we turn left onto a new cycle path that leads you below Feuersbacher Straße over the grounds of the old train station. At the end, you also meet Albert-Irle-Straße.

Directly opposite, the restaurant Firenze and Hotel Ewerts invite you to refresh, as do the nearby Siegeck Grill and the traditional inn Klein. At the level of the railway tracks we cross Albert-Irle-Straße at the pedestrian light and ride on Hinterm Wasser street directly towards Junction 39 (there are rails in the street here: risk of falling). From there we continue right towards Irmgarteichen. We follow the cycle path, leaving the nature experience pool on the right, and reach Salchendorf after 2 km. At the end of the residential area, we turn right onto Albert-Klenner-Straße to turn left again after about 100 m at the bakery onto the cycle path towards Helgersdorf.

From the next junction after about 1 km, we always keep right, passing a small seating area on the right. Shortly after reaching the forest edge at the entrance to Helgersdorf, we turn left at the fork and climb the ascent. The cycle path now rises gently until shortly before Werthenbach and first leads us above Helgersdorf through open meadows, then through forest. We reach open fields again and see a house.

We now gently roll downhill and turn right at the junction. We cross a small bridge and follow the path along the company Gräbener to the main street (Wetzlarer Straße), where we turn left. We follow the main street for about 500 m and then keep right at the sharp left bend shortly after the gas station and turn into Koblenzer Straße towards Irmgarteichen, which leads slightly uphill. After 300 m, we reach Junction 27.

From there, we go left through Im Wiesengrund street towards Hainchen. After 100 m, we turn left again, passing the sports field, later through the residential area to the Kirchweg junction. Here we turn left and follow the street to the junction with Gießener Straße, onto which we turn right. We pass the Catholic church and ride about 300 m on the main street to Junction 26. There we turn left towards the Lahn spring and always follow this cycle path. After about 2.2 km, we keep left and then turn right onto L722. We follow this uphill for about 3 km to Junction 24, where we meet Eisenstraße.

Here we keep left and pass Junction 25. On the left side is now the country inn Zum Lahnhof, a few meters later on the right side is Hotel-Restaurant Forsthaus Lahnquelle directly at the Lahn spring. We ride another 3 km on Eisenstraße to the Sieg spring. Here we can refill our water bottles with fresh spring water. The country inn Zur Siegquelle in Großenbach is a good place to stop for refreshments. We cross the next major junction (L719), pass Junction 18 and follow Eisenstraße towards Netphen.

After 4 km at the hiking parking lot Ederquelle, we turn left towards Forsthaus Hohenroth. After a few meters, we see an enclosure for wildlife on the right and see Forsthaus Hohenroth with its forest information center. We can refresh ourselves at Café Waldland in Forsthaus Hohenroth. From here, a visit to the nearby Ederquelle or the Kyrill trail is recommended. 200 m behind Forsthaus Hohenroth, we keep right and cycle down via the cycle path to Obernautalsperre. We follow it downhill for about 4 km until we catch the first view of Obernautalsperre.

Now it goes always along the water. After 2 km, we reach the dam with a magnificent view of Obernautalsperre and the water intake tower. A short ascent leads us up to the reservoir parking lot. In front of us on the right is Landhaus Heinrichshöh. Here we follow the winding and steep descent through the residential area. 100 m before the main street (Brauersdorfer Straße), we brake sharply and turn left at the height of the playground onto the cycle path. After about 1 km, we reach the starting point of our route. Here you have the option to use many leisure facilities before or after the bike ride: leisure pool & sauna, fitness & physio, indoor soccer & squash, mini golf course or soon also the new trampoline hall.
