A route around Bad Berleburg. Magnificent views and constantly changing landscapes make the route special.

The path goes uphill and downhill, as is typical for our low mountain range region. You hike through forests, across meadows, and along rivers and streams, which makes the hike so varied. Time and again, there are great panoramic views of Bad Berleburg and the surroundings. Along the way, you’ll find many nice spots to take a break. And if your feet get tired in between, you can cool them in the Eder river or the wading pool. There is the opportunity to visit the castle or the slate mining museum.

Directions

With a view of the castle, we walk right into the castle park around the castle, along the riding arena and the orangery. Then turn left and after a few meters turn right down the narrow path into the castle park. We go through the small gate leading to the street and continue on the path opposite along the ponds slightly upwards.

At the bench standing by the old chestnut trees, a narrow path leads us directly uphill along the meadow. When we reach the top of the path, a beautiful view of the castle opens up, and we continue left along the path, staying level, until we reach the "Wolfsgraben" farm. From here, the path leads uphill again a bit.

We continue on the asphalt road to the "Sengelsberg" hiking parking lot. From here, we hike along the "A1" trail to the Stöppel. Downhill on the asphalt road, past the school center, then cross the state road 906.

We follow the long-distance hiking trail "E1 Sweden-Umbria" to Raumland. Below the church, we leave the E1 and continue on Raumländer Straße to the Eder river. Below the slate mining museum, we cross the bridge. It’s worth pausing a moment down by the water on the large stones.

At the parking lot, we go left and at the next opportunity right up the narrow path, then right again, up to the "Grubengelände Hörre". Continuing left, after about 2 kilometers, we arrive above Bad Berleburg. Time and again, magnificent panoramic views and secluded spots invite you to linger. On the path over the houses by the Lenne, there is a nice view of the church, the castle, and the town center. From up here, you can also see the old fire hose tower at the market square.

We cross the L718 over the Lenne and follow the asphalt road uphill. Shortly before the forest, a path leads us left. With Berleburg in view, we follow the path to "Hof Espe," where the local history museum was once housed.

We go downhill along the street "Am Breitenbach" and cross Sählingstraße, then go opposite into "An der Odebornskirche" street, which we follow for a few meters until the bridge over the Odeborn river is on the left. With a view of the "Herrenwiese" industrial area, we walk left along the main road on the bike path to the former "Westfälischen Hof" hotel.

Along Homrighäuserweg, after about 150m, we turn left onto a hiking trail marked with a "circle on a black background" symbol. We follow it along the Lause and past the wading pool. At the "Bullerbach" hiking parking lot, we turn left uphill. After about 1.5 kilometers, at the T-junction, we turn right and after a few meters follow left again the long-distance hiking trail "E1 Sweden-Umbria" until we return to the starting point.
