Beautiful circular route that initially runs alongside our small stream "Laasphe" for a long stretch before branching off to the scenic mountains around the mystical Devil's Pulpit.

Beautiful circular route along the course of the small stream "Laasphe." While initially accompanied by the pleasant constant babbling, the path later winds idyllically over the Neesbachtal up to the Butzeberg. From here it partially follows the Myth and Legend Trail, which is signposted and tells stories of old Wittgenstein myths. The mystical natural monument Devil's Pulpit is also passed.

The path alternates between gnarled old deciduous forests, which provide natural shade, and reforested sections that offer sunny wide views of the Wittgenstein mountain landscape.

The path is also our recommendation for four-legged friends: well suited for hikes with dogs, as extensive bathing opportunities open up for the dog (and its human companion) at the beginning of the tour in the Laasphe!

On the return, a stop at the mountain hut Zur Teufelskanzel is recommended - here energy reserves can be replenished in a great atmosphere on Thursday/Friday from 4 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m.!

If you need to cool down at the end of the hike, you can do a round through our Kneipp facility in the adjacent city garden. Kneipping in the dipping and arm basins offers wonderfully healing stimuli and refreshment at the same time (unfortunately only allowed for humans here!)

Directions

The circular route starts in the city center of Bad Laasphe and first leads through the picturesque old town with its beautiful half-timbered houses, the historic church, and the beautiful old town fountain. Via a side street (Bergstraße) you reach a forest path that runs on the right along a large meadow and shortly afterwards descends left into a small path. This path continues along a meadow parallel to the settlement "Laasphetal." Already here you walk parallel to the little stream "Laasphe," whose course you now follow for quite a while and which is always within reach and provides cooling. The dense foliage of the beautiful deciduous forest provides pleasant shade and you are also always accompanied by a refreshing breeze, thanks to the coolness of the stream. After about 2.2 km, the path bends almost at a right angle slightly upward; here it goes left into a meadow bordering the "Laasphe." If you go to the ford, you will find a small idyll where a short rest is worthwhile. Those who want to shorten the route can do so here. If you cross the ford through the stream here, you walk on the left side of the little stream along an idyllic meadow path back to the Laasphetal settlement and return from there on the outbound route back to the starting point (total route length: 4.5 km).

Those who want to walk the entire route continue to follow the L4. Unfortunately, the bark beetle has not stopped here either and has felled large forest areas. However, nature has already reclaimed these areas, and colorful flowers and bushes adorn the cleared slopes.

When you reach the "Bracht," views open over extensive meadow areas.

Here the path turns east and leads uphill around the Obernberg up to the Neuntel. From here, some altitude meters are climbed. The L path shares its route at times with the Myth and Legend Trail and of course also passes the legendary Devil's Pulpit. From there, it then steadily descends back into the Lahn city. Shortly after leaving the forest path, you reach the mountain hut "Zur Teufelskanzel," where a stopover is always worthwhile (opening hours Thursdays from 4 p.m. / Fridays & Saturdays from 2 p.m. / Sundays from 11 a.m.).

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Thursday/Friday from 4 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m., stopping at the mountain hut "Zur Teufelskanzel" is highly recommended.

Cool route for dogs:

Even on hot days it stays pleasantly cool here. The dense foliage of the deciduous forest provides shade again and again, and there is always a cool breeze blowing, so the path is perfect for a "cool dog walk." If you want to shorten the route, you can do so here: Before the path rises gently almost at a right angle after about 2.2 km, it turns left into a meadow bordering the "Laasphe". If you cross the ford through the stream here, you walk on the left side of the little stream over an idyllic meadow path back to the Laasphetal settlement and then return to the starting point the way you came (total path length: 4.5 km).
