"The Woodworker" - a new cycling route around wood. The small route leads you about 50 kilometers through our natural paradise in Southwestphalia.

The small route starts at the marketplace in Bad Berleburg and then leads you through the villages of Berghausen, Aue-Wingeshausen, Rinthe, Weidenhausen, Sassenhausen, Arfeld, and Raumland. Along your bike ride, the element "wood" is always at the center. You pass wood-processing companies, look into the distance through wooden viewfinders, sit on the wooden swing, or take a break at a rest station. The challenging circuit promises wonderful views of our natural paradise. We recommend bringing a packed lunch.

Directions

The route starts at the nature park information center on the marketplace in Bad Berleburg. At the Poststraße junction, you ride a few meters over the Bärenbrücke and then turn directly right into the street "Unterm Hain." This street continues into the "Mühlwiese" and you follow the path until you reach a gas station. There, you turn left onto federal road B480, and then after about 200 meters, turn left again onto Hochstraße. Follow the road until you reach the upper town. Just before Berleburg Castle, the path leads you right onto the street "Berlebach." Ahead of you lies a slight climb up to the "Sengelsberg" hiking parking area. Here you come to a rest and information station including a viewpoint. "The Woodworker" gives you insight into her work at this point. The theme at this location revolves around the "Municipal Wood Agenda." Enjoy the wide view at the wooden portal and capture this view in a souvenir photo.

You continue your route towards "Trufte" and follow the road down into the valley. Before you reach the first houses, turn right and follow the signs "The Woodworker." After a while, you reach the country road L553 and cross it at the level of the country inn "Jagdstuben Grünewald." From there, you briefly ride through the valley, cross a small creek via a wooden footbridge, and then return to the L553. Follow the road about 250 meters and shortly before a sharp left curve, turn right. Continue along the road into the so-called Fehlbachtal. At the first intersection, turn left – ahead lies a hill which you cross. At the end of the road, turn left and reach the "Fehlbach" parking area. Follow the Priesterweg to the village center of Wingeshausen, passing, among others, the Protestant church. In Wingeshausen, turn left onto the old country road and thereafter reach the restaurant "Das Stammhaus," then the climbing rock, and then the village "Aue." From there, the path leads you right onto the main road and after about 500 meters, turn left into the industrial area (Zum Heilbach). You pass various wood-processing companies: including "Die Blockhaustypen," "Sonor," and further along the route also the company "SAB Sägewerksanlagen."

You continue your route along the course of the Eder River and reach the village of Berghausen. After a short section on the L555, turn right, passing the Protestant church of Berghausen. You cross the railway tracks and the path leads you further into the Lehmbach. There, turn right and ride into the Altmühlbach valley towards Rinthe. Under the willow, turn left and ride along the edge of the nature reserve to Rinthe.

In the small village of Rinthe, keep right and near the community center turn left. From here, follow district road K48 towards Weidenhausen. Above the village, on the right side (see signage), find our large master rest station with wooden viewfinder. Here you can take a seat on the large swing and enjoy a relaxed break. At this information point, "The Woodworker" tells you about the topic "Wood as a building material of the future." And here, too, you can sharpen your view by looking through the wooden sculpture.

After the restful break, continue: you pass the next wood-processing company – this time the Holzbau Kuhmichel company. Then turn left onto district road K46 and the route leads you through Weidenhausen. In the middle of the village, you can visit the new fire station, built using wood construction methods. At the village exit, head towards Sassenhausen and follow the signage. Above Sassenhausen, you'll find the next rest and information station. This time, "The Woodworker" tells you about the small half-timbered chapel. You ride down into the village center and can also take a close look at the church. From there, the path continues towards Arfeld – along the way, you pass the Wittgensteiner Land golf club and then follow the road for about three kilometers. You reach Café Hainbach above Arfeld and then ride down into the village. There, you cross the Eder bridge and continue on the Eder bike path. Follow it through the village Raumland and turn right at the industrial area there. From here, ride to the roundabout and take the second exit. Your route leads you over the Stöppel and past the local school center as well as the Rothaarbad. Then it goes downhill into the town and you reach your start and finish point on the marketplace.
